Should be an interesting MNF Opener. Wonder if he'll show the fans some love? Of course he wont show team management any love.......

I agree completely, but Gruden won't get our Chargers-Raiders game during the MNF doubleheader. They always do the first game while Mike Greenberg & Mike Golic of "Mike & Mike In The Morning" do the late game.

I'd hate to see Gruden do a Raiders game only because of how badly you guys would scrutinize him. "Oh wow, he said that was a bad play, HATER, ASSHOLE, HE'S JUST MAD HE'S NOT THE COACH, HE JUST HATES AL! OMG HE JUST SAID TOMMY KELLY CAN'T TACKLE!" Now you guys can hate on Mike and Mike instead.

The majority of the board feels that way though. Just look at the thread about Cris Carter and DHB, and any thread involving a media guy criticizing the Raiders. It's usually full of "oh that guy is just full of shit and secretly a Niner fan" or "that guy is being unprofessional" or some other crap.

Ughh Smh I heard this on Sportscenter yesterday morning before work. I must say I am just as disgusted today as I was yesterday. I don't give a rats ass what he thinks about the Raiders or any other football team for that matter. Its not because he's a hater I just don't give a sh*t about him in general so why would I care about anything that comes out of his trap???

What "disgusts" you about this? Sorry but that's a hell of an emotional response to finding out that John Gruden joined the MNF commentary team. Are you really going to miss Tony Kornheiser's utter stupidity that much? I mean, I guess if you love awful announcing, but if that's the case you can always take comfort in the fact that Joe Buck still has a job.

Now you're putting words in mouth, miss Tony K?? ehhh ehh but I do already miss my dear Mr. Madden. No one else will ever compare!I merely stated I don't care about Gruden, plain and simple and I really don't care to hear his opinion on anything much less football.
I am disgusted to know that Chucky was even an option, are you serious? OMG I am sure you have heard him speak during press conferences, I have never heard anything smart come out of that mouth. An awful announcer for another awful announcer lose lose situation, at least Tony K was humorous at times. :mean:

I like Chucky. He did use the non-word "irregardless" though during the draft. I think he is very reserved with his chances to bash the Raiders organization. He is pretty classy if you ask me.

He may just be withholding this info for other reasons like.....publishing a book?

Who knows...

I do think the media does have a slight bias when it comes to Raiderland, however, Al Davis has never endeared himself to the media as well. So whatever.

You get back what you put in.

I have to agree with MrHill that Joe Buck is absolutely terrible at broadcasting. In both baseball & football, his father was much better at broadcasting baseball games & Joe Buck will never come close to holding a candle to Pat Summerall when it comes to broadcasting football games.

I think your perception is a little blurry as far as where you draw the lines between someone hating or discrediting a media source or journalist because they simply can't stand them or think they are unprofessional or because they hurt your feelings about your team.
I seriously doubt 95% of us on this site are whiny ass homers who choose the latter. Thats like on some 16 year old fantasy football nerd shit right there. Just because the majority of us thought Chris Carter came off like an arrogant ass bitch and spoke unprofessionally doesnt mean we thought so just because he was talking down on the Raiders. Shit the Raiders deserve to be fucken punchline and whipping bitch to any journalist who wants to take a shot, but damn don't get too sloppy about it and snicker in the background and adimately trash a guy right before you interview him...wtf is that?

What he did wasn't remotely unprofessional. Look, as I've said 100 times, live coverage of events like the draft is different. Guys get pulled right off media row and the host is informed seconds before he's coming on that they have him. The host conducts the interviews because that's the hosts job. The analysts are supposed to analyze. If it angers Cris Carter that the Raiders made a stupid pick, he should act angry. As for the snickering, blame the line producer for leaving their mics on.

Every time an analyst trashes the Raiders because they've been fucking up, there are a whole lot of crying vaginas.

Just because this board has better mods and better rules doesn't mean everyone that posts is better. I've seen plenty of bitching about the media here. As for good analysis, I'd say it's about 50/50. This is better than RFN or RSL where the numbers are closer to 10/90.

First off I cant stand him and it goes back to when he was a player, I was just never a fan of him. I also didnt like the way he came about it. Gruden did the same coverage on the NFL network and came about it in a better manner IMO. I know you work in that field and know how things work but not all of us do. And we look at things in a different way.

But yeah I'm glad Gruden will be announcing MNF. I still wish he would take over Collinsworth's job.

If I was working with that crew, I would have asked Carter during commercial break what the hell he was doing, along with Jackson and Kolber for laughing. That could have been them criticizing Percy Harvin, or Tyson Jackson or what not and I still would have thought that was pretty shitty, because it's unprofessional.

I seriously think that was probably the worst segment I have ever seen from a group of NFL talking sportscasters.

Can you tell me how it's unprofessional? Jackson and Carter can laugh all they want with their mics off. The line producer is supposed to turn those down during an interview since Jackson and Carter are not the hosts of the show, therefore it is not their job to conduct live interviews. What did Carter say that was so wrong? DHB has no hands!!! He dropped wide open passes in college. The pick was absolutely ridiculous, and Carter is paid for his opinion so he gave one. Nothing about that segment was unprofessional except the mics being up when they should not have been.

When it's not this, it's something else. The online Raider fan community will always whine about the MEDIA HATERZ.

You also know dick about professional journalism. And if you told that to Carter and Jackson you'd be thrown off the set.

You were offended because you're a Raider fan, that's it. People are so goddamn quick to be offended and complain anymore. It's why everything is so watered and down and boring these days.

Who fuckin cares what Carter says, it's his opinion and he gets payed to say it. More power to him, isn't that what you wanna do?

You are blind, and you ask questions you already know the answer to. You act like the Raiders would be the only team I'd work for. I'm a fan of the NFL as a whole. You and BHJ are jumping to conclusions that I'm calling ESPN Raider haterz and all this junk. Just because I don't like the Bengals as much as the Raiders, doesn't mean I wouldn't feel the same way if they were in the same position and this happened.

Who's talking about working for a team? You want to be a sports writer, yet want to work for an NFL team... how does that make sense? The only journalists that work directly for a team are the ones doing work for the team publications, which means you push your opinion aside and write what the company tells you to write.

You've never really told me WHY the actions of the staff were unprofessional. There was a factual rebuttal for every gripe you had, from the "THEY TRASHED THE KID BEFORE THEY INTERVIEWED HIM" comment (not true if you know anything about live sports television), to the "THEY SNICKERED WHILE HE WAS ON" comment (that's the fault of the producer for leaving their mics on). What codes did Carter violate? You can't tell me because you've never been a professional journalist, nor are you currently good enough to be one.

And that's just it: if it wasn't this group, it'd be another. I've seen you insult media members for less, you just didn't go as far as you did with Carter, Kolber and crew. Raiders fans need to give the media a break. They're just mad because the team sucks and when a team sucks the media will say a team sucks. The only player that can do no wrong is Brett Favre, and the stupid fan mentality that gets Favre sucked off week to week is the same one that blames the media for trashing a team that wins 4 games a season.
