Coal vs. Nuclear is an argument that shouldn't exist. We should be trying to get off both.
It's amazing how environmentalists will TOTALLY manipulate this situation to push their agenda..
Did you see Ed Markey on CNN this morning??? All the news anchor wanted to know was the x's and o's of how the reactor melted down, what happens to the fuel core.. Real pertinent stuff....
All this dude wanted to talk about was how one of the SF reactors aren't built to handle an Earthquake of this magnitude.. And all he wanted to do was point out how Bush blocked the distribution of potassium iodide in neighborhoods adjacent to the plants..
Sure they care about the people but never turn down an opportunity to lobby for re-election... It's fucking incredible..
Did ya happen to WATCH the video ?
...and the part about the Jet Stream bringing the spewage of "11" Nuclear Reactors straight to the West Coast of the USA and YOUR Back door ??

No because half of what Alex Jones says is steeped in outright bullshit and designed to make fear a commodity.

Political or not, you do have to acknowledge and attack the failures of certain ideologies when those ideologies fail miserably.
]No[/B] because half of what Alex Jones says is steeped in outright bullshit and designed to make fear a commodity.
Then STFU ... if you don't know what the point of this thread is.
Nevermind ... I've argued with totally uninformed idiots before.
Enjoy the EL Nino
dumb ass.

Yes, nuclear meltdowns are bad, this shouldn't effect California at all though. Alex Jones is a fear monger. He will use any situation as an excuse to spread fear so his website profits from the ads and DVD's he sells. Please find a better news source.
Charlie sheen SUPPORTS alex jones...winning!
There is merit to radiation reaching our coasts via wind/precipitation...however mixing the whole chemtrail conspiracy with the japanese nuclear disaster makes me LOL
Some subversive revenge for wwII...lol

This POS saw all the money Glenn Beck was making and expanded his brand. Dude got kicked out of Fox News once, now he'll probably be working for them in the next 10 years.
Total fraud. PS what the fuck is "sessium?"
there is definitely merit to radiation poisoning reaching through precipitation and other means... Uranium and it's variations have ridiculous long half lives. The types used in bomb manufacturing can be found on Wikipedia as a loose guide..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapon_design#Oralloy_thermonuclear_warhea ds
Half lives of uranium types used in bomb/missle manufacturing
U-235 700 million years
U-238 4.4 billion years
When a warhead is detonated it converts to plutonium (PU-239) which is a much shorter half life than uranium around 200,000 years.. So you can see how the aftermath of a meltdown as opposed to a nuclear attack is much, much worse.
Anytime unstable, radioactive elements get released into the environment it's a scary thing.
I think it's a justified fear.
It was never mentioned in my Communist Manifesto leaflets so how do I know that cesium even exists ??
Things to know about Cesium-137, “IF” there is a complete meltdown and radioactive Fallout released into the environment
(also spelled, Caesium)
Where does cesium-137 come from?
Radioactive cesium-137 is produced when uranium and plutonium absorb neutrons and undergo fission. Examples of the uses of this process are nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons.
What is the half life of cesium-137 ?
The half-life of cesium-137 is 30 years. Because of the chemical nature of cesium, it moves easily through the environment. This makes the cleanup of cesium-137 difficult.
How do people come in contact with cesium-137?
Walking on contaminated soil could result in external exposure to gamma radiation. People may ingest cesium-137 with food and water, or may inhale it as dust. It is distributed fairly uniformly throughout the body’s soft tissues. Exposure may also be external (that is, exposure to its gamma radiation from outside the body).
How can cesium-137 affect people’s health?
Exposure to radiation from cesium-137 results in increased risk of cancer. If exposures are very high, serious burns, and even death, can result. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says everyone is exposed to minute amounts of cesium-137. The average annual dose in the Northern Hemisphere is less than 1 millirem annually. That falls below the 100 millirem exposure limit the Nuclear Regulatory Commission recommends.
(information sourced from the U.S. EPA)
Fukushima II Nuclear Power Plant (Daini), has 4 nuclear reactors.
Reports point towards 3 reactors in trouble (or were in trouble) there with cooling systems. Details sketchy on Fukushima II.
Update, 13-Mar-2011, 1130 UTC
(TOKYO) JapanToday.com, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano warned that a hydrogen explosion similar to one that blew away part of a building housing of another reactor (No. 1 at Daiichi) at the same facility on Saturday could occur at the reactor (No. 3 at Daiichi).
.... and the hits just keep on rolling

I know what Cesium is. It's pronounced "cez-e-um."
can you pronounce "Dooosch" ?

The amount of radiation one can be exposed to in open air without a health risk is pretty high. 100x the normal amount isn't fatal, and with the way that stuff would get dispersed by the time it reached land, it's pretty unrealistic to see this shit turning the west coast green.

Well, if you two are going to be all sensible and shit

I agree, though half of handling something well is being prepared for it, and for a ring of fire country Japan sure doesn't like Earthquake safety regulations.
I think your assessment of Jones is valid as well, Hill.. He does sensitize and fear monger...
It's a shame the way he feels he has to wrap it up. The dude is intelligent and his info checks out a lot more then it doesn't. He would probably have more people listening to him if he just presented his info in a different light.
I don't opine everything being a big government conspiracy. The closest I will get to that is the central planning that goes behind the Fed. But everything else that gets painted as a plot. I just think it's this nation growing too unwieldy. Everything that is passed now seems to be damage control.

His info doesn't check out, and even when it does, it's never under the premise he claims it is. The guy is a smart quack who makes money off dumb quacks.
A lottttt of his shit checks out... And he is very good at breaking down bills.

Alex Jones is full of shit, no better than Glenn Beck.
EarthQuake in Japan ....
Karmic payback for this ??

United States surgeon general supported the idea as a worthy "precaution."
... and by "worthy precaution" she means "only if you don't want to die".
