No, but if you substitue Shannon Brown for Morrison, you have 12 mil and thats close enough..
I wasnt using them as a static scenario just as a rough example of the type of players that would be brought in in place of Odom considering Kups track record is hot and cold at best.
Considering the team already had those other players, there'd be no reason to sign more bench players. They would go out and get an impact player, and I'm great with Mitch's track record on impact players.
Let's not forget... in 08 Mitch extended Bynum to his utterly ridiculous contract....
Its safe to say this Odom situation was not unseen...
that is another thorn in the side for the Odom deal...
SO now you have Andrew Bynum lol.... hold up, youre going to get a kick out of this one lol

Oh Boy...... God Bless you Andrew Bynum....
Your NBA career is fucked before it even got off track...
Of course, we can point out the tons of overpaid fluff around the NBA and compare them to Andrew Bynum...
But chances are most of them (or all of them) are not the defending NBA champs in position now to resign a crucial piece of their core and all their resources are now tied up into either dead or potentially dead weight in future years...

I will say it again: as of 10:08 pm on July 16, 2008, the LA LAKERS are the best team in the NBA.

Yes, they are.
We just replaced our starting small forward with an all star SF who is a rare breed. Not too many guys in the history of the league average 15+ point, 5 boards, and 2 steals.
Odom gives us flexibility in terms of match ups.
As of July 18 we are the best team in the NBA.

No, nothing wrong with that statement. But alluding to an NBA championship being a lock because Phil wins in pairs is a HUGE stretch and that has been the common theme in all my responses. The Lakers are the champs and are the best in the league until someone proves otherwise.
Where did I ever state the NBA title was in fact a lock for the Lakers? All I said is they have history on their side with a coach who wins in pairs... Some players are like that as well. See Ex Bronco and Niner Bill Romonaski. So I am not getting this idea of where I articulated and pointed out that LA is a lock to win the title.
However, I will say that LA will be favorites to repeat based on their talent and skill level, their legendary coach and a shooting guard who will not allow them to slide like so many other teams have.
Yes, it is a truism when Gen uses history as an empirical indication of the future. I prefaced my claim with either "I think" or "in my opinion" and even went as far as to say if they stay healthy which I admitted was a bold claim due to the age of their core. So I did not claim any truisms any where in this discussion. If I have, please point it out and I will eat crow.

Artest takes away Pierce, allows Bryant to have more freedom. Perhaps you missed the 2008 Finals when Pierce absolutely smashed all over Rad and Walton.
Bynum has only been in foul trouble against Howard, but who isn't?
Odom simply gives us flexibility. And its not like we won't find another body assuming Odom bolts.

1 body does not replace 2
You can replace 7 boards a game, but what you will have a hard time replacing is his verstaility. Even with that, its not like LA doesn't have a backup plan.
Let see: "Who wants to play with the two best wing defenders in the league, a 7 foot center, and a coach that can get you a ring?"
LA already upgraded the small foward spot, unless anyone thinks Ariza (who had half of a good season) was better...

That's just good GMing by San Antonio. And for all you know (Bynum has been effective in more games than he's been bad), it may be good GMing by the Lakers.

Not buying this Gen. Saying Jackson wins rings in pairs and stating that history should not be ignored is a definite nod towards fact, not opinion. Sure, it can be spun as the meaning was not DIRECTLY spoken but this point has been as inconsistent as A-Rod in October.
The premise was stated on historical fact. You can't say "I think Jackson wins rings in pair", unless of course you are unsure (which you are not). By starting with a truism and branching out, you are making a case for all linear thought to also be a fact. Maybe that was not your meaning and maybe it was lost in cyber space -- as unspoken points often do.
This is where I scratched my head and took a step back. Hill may think it is because I am a Laker hater. I am certain he is referencing my disbelief of the Lakers the year they got to the finals and lost. I stated the Lakers would not get out of the 2nd round and got egg on my face.

Didn't know that. I think a team would have to blow the Knicks out of the water with a high offer for them not to match. Who knows though... the Knicks have not been making smart moves the past half decade.

The only reason "Jackson wins rings in pairs" isn't true is because Jackson actually wins rings in threes.
That said, Gen using Jackson's history of repeating with well-constructed teams (such as this one) doesn't mean he's calling the Lakers as a lock, he's just using a precedent.

Nope, none of them are silly. Brock's has three weight classes on most heavyweights. I was wrong about the Lakers title run.
I gave respect to both Brock and the Lakers which is always conveniently ignored. You claim that I target the Lakers in debates but avoid other topics (i.e. comments made by Bump) yet you conveniently pick what you will and won't respond to.
Arguments aren't silly just because everyone doesn't wear the same shades as you bro. You are the one diverting from the topic at hand with other disagreements. Let me guess... none of your opinions have ever turned out wrong? You're a true legend!

Fact vs Opinion.. I simply providing a historical reference for what Jackson's basketball teams have done in the past, nothing more. I never once stated it is a fact that the 2009-2010 LA Lakers are bound to repeat as champions because of a historical reference. I never once stated that the LAKERS will not be beaten. I simply said that the Lakers have a shot at competiting for a ring based on the team they have coming back (with an upgrade at Small foward something that people continue to ignore) and the type of coach that Jackson is. I'm still looking for this opinion based theory that I have which you think is factual based.
Cite specific lines (literally rather than "reading between the lines, over anyalsis, interpeting, etc.) where I state the following line. "Since Phil Jackson past teams have repeated, it is factual that they are going to repeat." Have fun with that.[/QUOTE]

?? You are overacting to a mere statement/ central idea that I gave. And furthermore, my premise is not based on fact driven material, it is based on opinion, something which I don't think should be taken for fact unless you think it is fact because I have a lot of beliefs and a lot of passion about my arguments. And again, I never stated with truism (I have no idea why that word is being tossed around since it connotates different beliefs depending on the debate).
The meaning was very clear, cohesive, and straight forward -- there is no ambiguity, no little riddle behind my start off post. It is okay.
This is where I scratched my head and took a step back. Hill may think it is because I am a Laker hater. I am certain he is referencing my disbelief of the Lakers the year they got to the finals and lost. I stated the Lakers would not get out of the 2nd round and got egg on my face.

Artest is an upgrade over Ariza. You cannot ignore the numbers this guy puts up: 15/5/2. How many guys in the history of the NBA have put up those type of numbers? Not a lot.
Gooden and Smith are not as talented as Odom; I would go with Gooden just based on the age factor. Their roles would be slightly different, though... but really, LA would be looking for a guy that can run with the second team, probably bang a little more inside, rebound, and score.

We traded for Gasol largerly because ODOM could not handle the load as a legit second option and Bynum went down. Odom really had his best year with us when he flourish is the third of fourth option in the main offense. His worth is really in terms of how he can play multiple positions in the triangle, can defend in space and can run the break. With that said, we have other options if we do not resign him.
Laker fans are great....
At first it was "we NEED to resign Odom"
Fast forward to Odoms foot halfway out the door and the tune changes...
To "we have other options"
Sure, you have other options..... doesn't mean its a good one and sure as hell don't men you are getting the same dynamic that Odom brings.
Odom deserves that money, every penny of it.

The sentence/ statement which is provided does not prove your point; it points back to the idea behind historical reference... I don't foreshadow seasons.

An argument does not presuppose that there is anger. I'm not tripping. I'm calling it an argument because I believe we have hit a cross roads. There is really nothing more to discuss/debate that we have not already covered.
You say you didn't state that they would win a championship and I believe that the logical progression stated so. People don't communicate by saying
1) All red houses cost a lot of money
2) The house you live in is red
3) Therefore your house cost a lot of money
Language, and by extension, communication dictates that a person says one thing and allows the listener/reader to use logical progression to pin point the meaning.
Maybe you did not mean what I read but I think it is reasonable for me to say this is how it read to me. Since there was a likely miscommunication, I believe this can no longer function as a discussion/debate. This will ultimatley end with back and forth banter about the true meaning of what was stated. So, in my opinion, there is not a need to further the back and forth.
That being said, I believe the Lakers are the best team in the league until proven otherwise and I don't care if Jackson has won championships in pairs.
And on a totally unrelated, unnecessary note, go Warriors, screw Brock Lesnar, and undo the Bradley for Ethier trade.

I like Lee, but he wants too much money. 10-14 mill per is waaay too much for a guy who has no defense in the post, doesn't block ANY shots, can't guard the pick and roll, and has a mid range shot that at best is a work in progress.
He's a really good finisher with a decent low post game on offense. He will get around 10 boards for you but is not a big impact player.
Despite what many think, Nate Robinson is the better player and I would do whatever it takes to get him re-signed.

he's a hell of a scorer. not a pass first set up prototypical pg but when teams bring help towards him he finds the open man. some people say hes ineffecient but thats not true at all. he hit a bad streak right at the end of the season when our whole team fell apart. at one point he was 3rd or 4th in scoring in the league going back to the all star break. he was averaging around 32 points for probably around a month. knicks better have something big planned if they are letting go of crawford, randolph, nate, lee, and curry. gave away a playoff spot for the hope that we get lebron? even though according to dantoni we are not targeting? i dont get it. donnie walsh better make something big happen or ill be calling him al davis soon

Whatever happened to that Italian dude the Knicks drafted when Eric Gordon was still on the board?
Whatever happened to that Italian dude the Knicks drafted when Eric Gordon was still on the board?gallinari cant stay healthy with his back and ankle. i was pissed when we made the pick but after watching him play a bit he is a really effecient player. plus dantoni seems to prefer veteran players. supposedly eddy curry lost 30 pounds and i think dantoni is going to try to up his value then trade him.
The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a two-year, $14 million contract with free agent point guard Andre Miller, a source familiar with the negotiations told SI.com. The deal includes a team option for a third season at $7 million.

Nice deal for Portland Bump.. Miller's still got some game, and he's a nice vet to mix in with their youth.. Should be some good battles with Portland for a few years for sure..
Now WE just gotta get that fuckstick Lamar signed..

I think Miller signing in Portland will facilitate Odom signing a LOT quicker...
Odom's only options are LA and MIAMI now.... Any chance of him waiting for Portland to leverage is out the door now.

Lamar's agent is playing the pride game at this point.
Miller is a perfect signing for Portland.

At this point I would agree. Because it doesn't make much sense for him to sign anywhere but LA
They waited this long to hold out for max money and to turn around and sign with Miami and have to play an extra year for what would amount to a trivial amount more over the life of the contract would be silly.
Doyers y Esleigher

A trivial amount for a much less successful team who still might lose their best player.
Odom is leaning towards Miami right now according to yahoo sports. Lakers aint even offering what they were originally.
Supposedy R. Rubio is signng a 2 yr deal overseas too...

Just saw that on Odom. I'm glad the Lakers aren't buckling to these agents. Odom would make us better but he takes too many games off to demand 10mil per.
GO LAKERS!..

yeah, it's sayin how he about to sign with real madrid and after the 2 yrs, go to the t-wolves. he'd make a million euros and RM was able to lower the 5 million (euro) buyout clause

Andre Miller is a great signing for Portland, he's a pure PG and good vet presence for their young squad.
Odom is just playing chicken w/ the Lakers right now....."I'll sign in Miami, I swear I'll do it!!!" If he leaves LA he's a dumbass especially since Wade might bolt after this year. Then he can have fun making his extra $1 mil per year on a 24 win team.

Hes playing chicken with the wrong MF too. *See Trevor Ariza* :chair:
i dont see wade leaving miami, nor lebron leaving cleveland. How many teams let their best player go? Especially of that caliber? They have the cap space especially with the bird righs they will break the bank if need be. I could definitely see Amare a FA next year unless phx trades him. I doubt Toronto even lets Bosh go.

Yep, yep.. Been listening to 710 ESPN out of LA all afternoon about it.. Done deal, 4 years, 33 million.. Looks like Portland tried to sneak in with a late offer, but Lamar was gonna stay in LA the whole time damnit.. Fuck Miami..
^^^^
That part about Portland reportedly offering 40 mil for 5 years was removed from the ESPN article.. The source was dubious at best as it was never confirmed.
I doubt it even happened.

Yep, they denied the Portland offer.. They would have had to trade Outlaw or some shit to get enough dough to do it..
Whatever, the offseason is complete, now we just wait till October for training camp..
And in the meantime we got the Dodgers trying to get a fucking ring and Raiders trying to become relevant again.. Fuckin A..
I can't wait til football! We can be each others support group for the Raiders suckage...
Then we can etear each other down again during basketball season.. cuz I know Portland is diggin in the Lakers ass this year!
HOLLA!
