View Full Version : Thoughts on Walker?

While we all should know Walker has his best days behind him, and certainly should not be relied as a number one, what are your thoughts of him? Yes he is really not part of our "youth" movement, but I feel everyone is too soon to forget about him. IF healthy I feel Walker can be pretty solid for us as a number 2.
Higgins? I don't feel is should be a starting WR, but a slot guy which he should be great.
Chaz? Yes I really like this kid and he has potential, if anyone starts over Walker it should be him.
Why I say start over Walker? Well as of right now we have a slot guy/big play WR and 2 solid WRs at best. What teams are going to be scared of a guy with two knees that are shot and Chaz?
I think the best route for our receiving core is to draft the Red Raider, Michael Crabtree. This would give us that number one WR we need for Russell. With drafting him, I think Walker can suceed at number 2. The guy will no doubt be a solid contributor when healthy. With the recent restructure, it makes keeping him not so bad. Walker when thrown to last year did catch the ball. Everyone just blames Walker for his crappy numbers, but no one takes in to account that we barley threw the ball at all. With Crabtree, and also McFadden and Miller it would take a lot of attention a way from Walker which would allow him to succeed.
Thoughts?

I think Walker is not a #1 but I would rather use our #1 pick on defense. JMHO. :csa:

So who do you want at 7? I wanted Raji, but the kid keeps getting into trouble.
I would love to get... 1st Crabtree 2nd Brace

Or Raji then Robiskie. Even using 2nd on Chung would be decent.
Walker, if healthy, can emerge this year as a pleasant suprise. His pocket book got slashed down and if he doesn't produce this year, he most certainly will dissapear from the NFL. HE got his payday, hopefully is rehabbing well from his hamstring and foot, but I wouldn't count on dude for nothing. The front office should just pretend he is not on the team and draft and sign accordingly. If he shows up to camp and fights his way tot roster spot, then thats great, if not, boo hoo.
What I like about Chaz over Javon as a #2, is that he certainly has a step on him, and the guy blocks real well, and can jump up and snag Russells zippers pretty well.
If this Chad rumor is true, which I doubt, Crabs is off the list

That would be a good alternative mock if Crab is not there and Raji is.
My thoughts on Walker...well the dude showed a lot of character by restructuring his contract after last years pro-bowl performance. Im not expecting anything great and believe he'll be injured by week 4.
Shoulda been allowed to retire last year!:happens

I'm going to withhold any commentary on Walker untill I see what he does this year.
I'm with CSA on the draft, but I'm almost certain that Al will take a WR at #7.
Walker CAN be a very good WR if healthy. But he looked slow and sluggish last year. And I cant think right now very well lol....

agreed. Defense with the 1st pick or bust...or trade down. I like Ramses Barden from CA Poly who they have been keeping an eye on...along with Nicks and Robiskie.
In regards to Walker, if he can stay healthy, he can be solid for us. I do not think the Raiders should draft a receiver at 7 however and that they just need to add another receiver who has big play potential. BTW that 6'6 reciever Barden has 20 straight games with a TD...dude is a baller reminds me of Plaxico

Walker didnt produce at all.
Sure he wasnt healthy.
But i dont remember many balls thrown to the guy.
I only remember that they threw twice to him,
Once for a deep curl about a 15 yrd reception, and the td against the jets..
I kinda believe Kiff didnt utilize him when he was healthy.
But i also think he cant really produce like the #1 he was, too many injuries..
Hope he proves me wrong...
But id rather the front office, al, draft as if we dont have Javon as the #1 and draft Crabtree...
i do know want another dam veteran, keep bulding this core...

I don't have the games recorded, but I'd bet that it was Walker's fault he wasn't getting the ball. He probably just couldn't get open. I remember Russel holding the ball way too long... perhaps waiting for walker to get open?

The whole passing offense sucked.

To be honest, I'm not expecting a whole lot from Walker this year. The biggest thing, and it's pretty cut and dry, is his health. He'll be 31 this season and coming off his 3rd major injury, pro athletes don't just magically regain their form after multiple knee injuries. I give him credit for restructuring and hopefully he's got his head screwed on straight, but again I'm really not expecting too much from him.
I have a feeling we're going to be pleasantly surprised by Walker. Just a hunch...

I wont get my hopes up. But Ive seen what Javon can do. I loved the move originally. Lets see what happens with JaMarcus having another year under his belt and some better protection.

I think people are overrating Walker to begin with. His best season was 5 years ago, playing with Favre and alongside Don Driver. The next year he blew out his knee opening day, then got traded to the Donkies, had a good year, then got injured the next year. He comes here and has the Vegas incident, tries to retire, plays terrible and gets injured again. He's had more season ending injuries than productive NFL seasons.
I doubt he'll stay healthy but ive seen the plays he CAN make when he is healthy. I think he is a lot better than the scrub we saw last year. Or maybe his knees are just shot and he cant play football anymore. Time will tell lol.

Honestly i think Walker is done. His knees seem to be shot and he don't seem to be all there in his head. I liked him in Green Bay but since he left his career and life has taken a turn for the worse.
I bet he wont be here come this time next year.

That's what I'm saying. He has had more season ending injuries than quality NFL seasons, that all we need to know. And I agree I think we only hung on to him because we couldn't afford to cut him. He'll be asked to re-structure again next season and if that doesn't happen he'll be cut.

Not really expecting much.
Like the rest of our WRs, there's potential, but whether he produces is up to the tarot.

Potential seems to be the only thing we have for this team as of late, and it never comes true. lol

They said the knees were all gravy. Last year was the hammy and foot, but I still tend to agree.

It sucks when people just can't get passed injuries.
