Will do GG...I was gonna do that I just made this thread and then had to leave after.

One thing I didn't know was they were gonna be called the Senors. LOL I can't imagine rooting for a team w/that name.

Also that they used to practice at the Alameda Naval Base.

Please someone help me out on this. I've been arguing with someone about this for the past couple days now. He tells me the Raiders were in San Diego for one year in the AFL days. He said they weren't named the Raiders at the time so I look up the Senòres and still I find nothing about them Being in San Diego. He argues it non stop but I still see no proof any where on the net. So please clear this up for me, ANYONE! I'm about to go postal soon :nanagun

No, the Raiders NEVER played in SD.

In case the guy you are debating with does not believe you, here is a very formal Raider website which talks about the entire history... I'm working on a history of the Raiders for another site that my friend is running..

http://www.raidersonline.org/raiders-history.php

Key points: they were awarded a team because the owner of the LA CHARGERS wanted another west coast team. They played in two different stadiums before going to the HOT... They were name the Oakland Senors based on a newspaper contest, but the name later changed to the Raiders for obvious reasons.

I'm not doubting Teddawg's source or info (I know him, met him couple times at the Raider game), but I would be interesting in finding out A)what year did they play in SD B), why did they play their and such. There are a lot of credible raider sites. Lemme double check my sources..

The Raiders started their first two years playing at Kezar in SF and at the Stick. Then in Oakland at Frank Youell Field for two years while the "state of the art" lol HOT was being built.. They were supposed to originally land in Minnesota or Atlanta.

http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nfl/oakland/raiders.html
Historical Moments:
1960: Originally slated to play in Minnesota the AFL's 8th original franchise was forced to look for another home after a deal with Minnesota fell through. After briefly flirting with Atlanta it was decided to put the new team in the Bay Area. The Oakland Raiders, led by Coach Eddie Erdelatz played their first game ever at San Francisco's Kezar Stadium on September 11th where they lost to the Houston Oilers by a score of 37-22. Two weeks later in a rematch at Houston the Raiders got their first win by a score of 14-13. The Raiders would finish their first season in financial peril with a 6-8 record.

1961: After losing their first 2 games by a combined score of 99-0 Eddie Erdelatz is fired and replaced by Marty Feldman. Under Feldman the Raiders would not do much better winning just twice on the way to a woeful 2-12 season.

1962: After playing their first 2 seasons in San Francisco stadiums (Kezar Stadium and Candlestick Park), the Raiders finally find a home in Oakland, as they agree to play in a converted high school stadium named after an undertaker Frank Youell Field. However, the change of address did not help as they lost their first 5 games before Coach Marty Feldman is fired. Under his replacement Red Conkright the Raiders would continue to struggle losing their next 8 before beating the Boston Patriots 20-0 in Oakland in the season finale to finish with an awful 1-13 record.

1963: The Raiders hire San Diego Chargers assistant Al Davis as their new Coach and General Manager. His first move is to give the team a new look, as they take the field in silver and black uniforms. The new look would work wonders as the Raiders won their first game over the Oilers in Houston 24-13. The Raiders would also win their 2nd game a week later, but a 4 game losing streak would quickly have them crashing back to earth. However, the Raiders would recover and would win their last 8 games to finish with a 10-4 record, as Clem Daniels rushed for 1,099 yards. However, the Raiders would have to settle for 2nd place, despite sweeping the first place Chargers.

Minnesota bailed out and went to the NFL, then the AFL was looking for an 8th team and try to go to Atlanta. Finally they went with Oakland, however, as stated previously, the old owner of the LA CHARGERS wanted a second west coast team in the AFL and Oakland was a destination. A group of local businessmen and suits, led by ED MGAGH and company got things done. Originally they were called the Senors but that changed shortly after...

They played at Keiser based on fact that Berkeley wanted nothing to do with them, then they went to Candleshit follow by playing at Frank for a couple season. in 65 the HOT was being constructed, I think...

A lot of people say a lot of things; tell him to prove it.

I didn't exist yet but my dad was a young guy working in Oakland at that time and the Raiders actually we're giving away their tickets to people in restaurants and anyone that would take them when they didn't sell out. My dad got some tickets and went to the first game in Kezar.

One thing the Raiders did do and this may have fooled your friend, is that the Raiders often scrimmaged San Diego because they we're so close to them in location, especially before the season started.

What's funny is that when the AFL decided to choose Oakland, they had no stadium, no buying group, and pretty much no one interested in starting a football team.

The H.O.T. stands for House of Thrills, a nickname that a lot of fans have used..

The House of Thrills was first coined by the GREAT Curt Gowdy in the 70's; Curt Gowdy started using the name after the Raiders started winning amazing playoff games like the sea of hands game and the playoff win against the Patriots when Stabler scored a last second touchdown.

Many, including many at NFL films still say the sea of hands game was the best in history and it's hard to argue. It was the famous last year of the Dolphins greats and they vowed to beat the Raiders and win another superbowl.

Jim Kick, Larry Csonka, and the great Paul Warfield had already signed for a lot of money with the world football leagues Memphis Southmen and we're leaving the Dolphins.

They never played in San Diego. The original owner was Wayne Valley. They used to play in Kezar Stadium. The original logo featured a black helmet and a mustache. They also featured gold in colors. Holy motherfucking cow, I CANNOT believe that ANYONE that calls themselves a Raider fan would insist that they EVER played in San Diego.. It's common fucking knowledge that they never did, and for a guy like Teddawg or anyone else that proclaims themselves to be a Raider fan to insist they did pisses me the fuck off..

Sorry, but it just boggles my fucking mind.. BTW, I use Pro-football reference ALOT, and here (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/1960_AFL/)it is in black and white, just for shits and giggles.. Maybe they got confused that the Chargettes played their first year in LA before moving to SD, whatever.. It's still inexcusable in my mind as a Raider fan..
