Why is the OP banned?? Just curious.

I'm sipping on nothing now but last night was different. Had a benefit for my buddy's lil bro :bro: :bro: who died when having minor surgery on his foot (anesthetics stopped his heart). Dude was only 20 years old so we got his football team to come down and we all got smashed. Jim Beam awwll day.

Sorry to hear about your buddy's lil bro. I hope the Jim Beam was Black Label.

Thanks fellas. S'all good though. I barely knew him but I'm pretty cool w/ his older brother. We did do an awesome job raising a ton of money to give to an athlete as a scholarship in his name though so it's rewarding at the same time.

And S&B I wish it was Black Label. I love some of that shit but find me a bar that's gonna sell that to me for $3 a shot and I'll go...... and never leave..... b/c it means they're probably gonna have Single Barrel also ha ha ha ha. Love that stuff.

$3 for a shot of Beam white label is bullshit. There are 17 shots in a bottle. at $3 a pop, that's $51 for a bottle that costs $17 off the liquor store shelf. No wonder owning a bar is a lucrative venture...lol.

The art of Bourbon drinking part 1.

We have written briefly on this topic before but do so again because We have a crop of new Bourbon lovers to whom We need to minister (Royal 'We' with tongue in cheek).

As far as We are concerned, Bourbon is the national drink of America, so it deserves all the rights, privileges, and ceremony that goes with that esteemed distinction.

For many of the Bourbon unwashed, Bourbon is thought of as a much quicker way to drunkdom than beer, and gulping it by the mouthful does in fact provide a quick and often devastatingly ineffective way to deal with whatever crosses the path of the drinker. To the person so inclined to use Bourbon, We address no remarks other than 'GROW UP'!

For the Bourbon Enthusiast, however, We would like to provide Our opinions on how best to derive that most wonderful pleasure that can come from the proper appreciation and use of Bourbon. To say that there is an ART to Bourbon drinking is only to give it the respect it is due and to acknowledge the mystery that lies at its heart.........no one knows everything about Bourbon.

Bourbon belongs to no one............and to everyone.........but most especially to those who approach it with an appreciation for its seductive and awesome power. To those, it offers great rewards in its complexity of taste and in its (let Us be honest here) mind altering effects.

As a BourbonEnthusiast you should never be in a hurry when you approach your favorite Bourbon. Life is not best lived in a hurry and Bourbon does not look with favor on haste (let Us assert here that Bourbons have personalities and get that over and done with).

Pour about 25ml or 1 ounce in to a smallish glass with a mouth that is almost as open as the bowl of the glass and let the Bourbon breathe for at least a few minutes before nosing........swirl it in the glass and let your hand warm the glass in the meanwhile.

After a suitable while, place your nose above the glass and let the aromas waft up to your nose. Snif slowly at first and never inhale deeply. You are being the detective here, you are not seeking to clear your sinuses. You are looking for aromas that may be hiding from you, for aromas that you find familiar but cannot immediately place or recall, for aromas that are new but bring back some long past associations, for aromas that you cannot identify but that please you, and for aromas with which you will become familiar as you nose yet more bourbons. NEVER underestimate the importance of your nose in Bourbon enjoyment, which means that you must NEVER rush nosing Bourbon. It is an essential part of the Art of Bourbon Drinking. Do not set a time limit for nosing Bourbon............as long as it is enjoyable to you, do it.........and behold how it changes.

The art of Bourbon drinking part 2.

We have nosed and enjoyed the aromas of our favorite (or at least a Bourbon we enjoy) Bourbon until our palate demands that we give it a taste of what the nose has promised.

Our experience is that the nose may have over or under promised the taste to come. Strange to say, but the nose is not a perfect prognosticator of taste, so be prepared.

As you took your time with the nosing, so must you also take your time with the sipping. NEVER gulp Bourbon if it is your intent to maximize taste. If you gulp, you will bypass the more sensitive parts of your mouth and only taste (or sense) alcohol and spice.

Our palate seems to have three parts.

Upfront is the sweet taster. If there is sweetness in the Bourbon you are sipping, it will appear on the tip of the tongue. Sweetness is a major component of the taste of Bourbon and derives primarily from the barrel (some say exclusively, but not Us).........give it a chance, if you drink Bourbon too quickly, you may miss the sweetness.

Mid-palate is the crossover point. The sweetness gives way (not completely in the best Bourbons) to the spice as the Bourbon asserts it Bourbonness in distinction to all other whiskies or spirits. Our opinion is that the mid-palate is where true complexity in Bourbon begins........does the sweetness work with the other emerging flavors......things like vanilla, maple, caramel, oak, spices both mild and sharp, fruits both dark and deep or cirtusy, nuts, leather, chocolate, grains like corn or wheat or rye, and Lord knows what else, individual drinkers find their own uniques flavors. No one knows Bourbon beyond his or her puny capacities! Bourbon is like a Box of Chocolate.........you never know what you are going to get!

The back of the mouth is where things leave their mark. Our belief is that a short finish means that someone listened more than they should have to the accountants and marketers who want production above everything. The finish is like the finale to a great symphony. It is of a piece with the whole effect of the sip of Bourbon and brings it to a complex conclusion. Ideally it should be a suming up of what went before. If the Bourbon was sweet and rich, there should be some remnents in the finish. If it was spicy and fruity, they should be there in the finish. Our opinion is that if the Bourbon was soft in its sweetness and subtle in its spice it will be soft and subtle in its finish.

For Us, no taste experience exceeds that of our favorite Bourbons..........hungry as we get, no food satisfies our palate more than Bourbon (We will eat before We drink, of course, but only because it sustains our life and life demands sustanence before pleasure).

Bourbon drinking is an Art, treat it with proper respect and it will never disappoint you!

What's a mattah with you guys... you don't drink anymore?

I'm trying my first taste of Auchentoshan single malt Scotch. This is very clean and crisp, like an Irish whiskey, due to being triple distilled... like Irish whiskey.

Lightest bodied Scotch I've ever tasted, with hints of butterscotch and nuts... maybe some fruit notes a well. I could get to like this one real well.

Top 10: Drinks Real Men Don't Order
No.1 - Cosmopolitan

"Never, ever order a Cosmo."

We have respect for the Cosmo for having risen to the pinnacle of girls-night-out drinks, and we recognize that it is a fundamentally sound cocktail (in other words, it's not just made from a powder). But leave it to the ladies. Cosmos go down a little too easy for comfort. If you're looking for a reddish cocktail served in a martini glass, order yourself a Manhattan and toast yourself for being a man.
