Our defense sucks big time against the run. Our defensive line gets no push and our linebackers don't plug the gaps and can't get off a block to save their lives. Lord help us If one of these stiffs has to make a tackle. I don't want to hear about them being on the field all the time because the offense goes three and out. If they want to get off the field all they have to do is make a stop, make a stand, make a play, stop the other ^%$#@!~ team. I know they are running Al's defense but you still need to tackle the %$#@!&* with the ball. I don't even know why I'm complaining, we won't draft a DT or LB until the 5th or 6th round and we will pass over some top DT's and LB's to draft a another fast DB. It's the Raider way.

I feel you CSA. I'm honestly not too upset with what we have at DE - Seymour, Ellis, Scott and Shaughnessy (sp) - but not one of our DT/NT seem to be worth a shit. Our LB's are weak as hell too. I wonder what BJ Raji could've done for us or Ron Brace for that matter....

You can switch up man and zones all you want but if you constantly bring 4 rushers you better have a damn good pass rush. Al doesnt force anyone to run strict man coverage. Ryan ran at least 60% zone. But it was the same zone over and over with no blitzing. The one constant between Marshall and Ryan is the 4 man rush. I've heard bresnahan used to blitz but i cant remember back that far.

Our run defense has been better but our pass defense has regressed. Our corners can run with their man but don't react to the ball in the air. That includes Nnamdi. He's having an average season. Chris Johnson is getting burnt week after week and Routt is getting picked on more and more it seems. When teams actually throw at Nnamdi, they are completing about 80-90% of their passes. Where is the press coverage that worked last season?

The raiders run defense isn't getting pushed around as easy as usual. But they dont stay in their gaps and they give up huge plays when the rb finds the cutback. ex: NYG. Notice how Jacobs was stuffed but the outside plays bradshaw was able to stretch out our defense and then cut it back. Linebackers fault.

Although the jets for example just grinded us play after play. Thats where we need a stouter DL. The LB's had no chance. The DL played awful.

More physical DT's, and smarter LB's, CB's, and coaches. That's what our defense needs. Huff, Branch, and Seymour are the only three i cant say anything bad about.

The defense needs a lot of work but I still think around 85% of our losses come because the offense sucks big fat horse cocks and WE CAN'T SCORE. Defense wins championships, sorry but that's a tired cliche. You gotta score points to win in today's league, and we've scored 88 points in 9 games! What the fuck?!?!?? A total of 7 TDs on the year, and scoring less than 10 ppg (we scored 10.6 a game in 2006 BTW) just isn't gonna hack it.

We could still use another pass rusher and a true run stuffing MLB, but IMO the defense isn't nearly as pathetic as the offense.

I'm with you crispy. However, I came to grips with the fact that they were going to draft DHB so it wasn't as bad as 08 when we took Mcf over Dorsey to me.

But seriously, this D needs a good DT and a MLB and it could be pretty good, assuming Ellis and Seymour stick around. But like CSA said, the fastest DB will probably be the 1st pick, followe by the fastest WR in T. Holliday.

Then another DE. Then MAYBE they'll think about drafting a DT or LB. I hope they make a run at Dansby if he doesn't re-sign with the Cardinals.

exactly. I honestly think we would have more W's if we had any type of offense at all. Our defense has major holes to fill but when your offense goes 3 and out all game long how can you possibly stay in games. The meat of the defense (DT, MLB) really needs to be adressed this offseason. When was the last time we had a legit DT that can actually demand doubles and plug some holes???

Defense is nto nearly as big of a concern to me as offense is right now. The defense is bad, but we have absolutely no shot at all with the anemic offense we have, while at times the defense has put us in good position. or24, I notice the same thing about our CBs, how they don't react to the ball in the air. last week I saw CJ right on top of his man, and if he turned around when the ball was up he had just a good of a shot at the ball as the WR. But this tattered defense would be fine if they were kept off the feild or the offense could score 21 points a game. When we get gashed, its because we get stomped on early and everybody loses any motivation they may have had. But no matter how good the D is, it just isnt possible to win with less than 10 points a game. Can we really expect a defense to hold opposing teams to a fg and a TD? even that could win games against us. 3 fgs for that matter. The offense needs work before the defense does.
