Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards is expected to become a member of the New York Giants before the NFL draft on April 25-26, according to a pair of sources with knowledge of the negotiations.

“The Giants are going to have to up the offer a bit, but [the Browns] are willing to move him,” said one of two sources with knowledge of the talks between the teams.

New York is trying to replace talented yet troubled wideout Plaxico Burress, released by the team on April 3 after a turbulent year near and far from the field. Meanwhile, Cleveland is open to ridding itself of Edwards, who set the team record for touchdown catches in 2007 with 16, because he’s being viewed as someone who will have difficulty working with new coach Eric Mangini.

The Browns reportedly asked for a second- and fifth-round pick and receiver Steve Smith, but the Giants declined. New York countered by offering the two draft picks and receiver Domenik Hixon for Edwards.

Neither the Browns or Giants could be reached for this story, but both sources said the gap will be bridged before the draft.

“The Giants are motivated, they’re trying to win right now,” the aforementioned quoted source said. “Edwards is a bigger guy that [quarterback] Eli [Manning] wants to throw to, like he had with Plaxico. The Giants know they can’t leave Eli with no great receivers. They saw what happened last year.”

New York’s offense sputtered over the final five games of the season after Burress was suspended by the team after shooting himself at a New York nightclub.

Edwards (6.-foot-3 215 pounds), who has expressed a strong desire to play in a large market like New York, isn’t quite as big as Burress (6-5, 232) but would give the Giants a nice-sized target.

Edwards, the third overall pick in 2005, has shown flashes of his joining the league’s elite wideouts, catching 80 balls for 1,289 yards in his record-setting ’07 season. However, that’s the only time he has surpassed 900 yards in a season over his first four years. Last season, Edwards slumped to 55 catches for 873 yards and three touchdowns during the Browns’ disappointing 4-12 season.

If this happens, all of us who want Crabtree can kiss those hopes goodbye.

Orakpo in a 4-3 scares me a bit. He's a little too hybriddy.

It's Ramses Barden at 7...

...BAH!!

^^ Yeah I agree, I know he seems like a great fit but I'm really nervous as to weather he can be an every down 4-3 DE, rushing the passer AND playing the run.

Orakpo can be a 4-3... Stop worrying over trivial things.

LOL how is that trivial? It's a legitimate concern at this point.

No it really isn't.. The same issue arose with Suggs and Boulware, and they turned out fine at either spot.

If you're wrong about him Bump, I'm gonna be pissed. The term workout warrior gets tossed around a little too much for my liking in regards to this guy.

Mannnn listen.... Orakpo is not a workout warrior!!!

Workout warriors are guys that have off the chart measureables without the production to match.

Orakpo was a very productive player in college.

If we take the guy I still would not be mad. And I really think Burgess is going to have a decent season on the other side, what with him being in the final year of his deal. And to be quite honest I think he's been milking it lately and not giving 100%, but if he wants to use this year to strictly boost his FA stock, then by all means go ahead.

Edwards trade may not happen after all....

According to the New York Post, "there is no new news to indicate" that Braylon Edwards is "expected" to be dealt to the Giants before the draft as Yahoo.com reported Tuesday.
The Giants remain interested, but Edwards' reported demands of upwards of $10 million per year and the Browns' asking price of a first- and third-rounder are stumbling blocks. Still, the Giants realize the chances of landing an impact receiver late in the first round are slim.

Even with Braylon Edwards on their roster... this wont stop the Browns from taking Crabtree at all.....

Edwards being traded changes the chances of the Browns taking Crabtree from 95% to 99%
