Why? B/c I listen to ALL types and varieties of music?? Would you like some new age "metalcore"? "Mathcore"? Hip Hop? Indie? Sludge Metal? Horrorcore? Dude, music is everywhere. I LOVE shit from back in the day bu that doesn't mean I'm omitting new stuff from what I listen to.

And I don't care what anyone labels anything FTR. If it sounds good, it's good to me. But how can anyone hate on Dance Gavin Dance guitarists is beyond me.

2nd I might as well be listening to a harder version of Explosions in the Sky w/ god awful vocals

Slayer is "rehashed?" Find me a single album released before 1986 that sounded like Reign in Blood.

Either way, the bands you posted aren't remotely original, and I don't mean they have influences, I mean the shit sounds like something 10,000 other bands have already made.

Who cares if it has a traditional sound or not. It's all coming from shit made earlier whether you like it or not.

The Sounds of Animals Fighting and The Stiletto Formal have some of the oddest, craziest music I've heard but it all sounds like something before it whether you want to admit it or not.

You could say Led Zeppelin pioneered black metal but even they had influences from bands prior.

Real METAL is still being made, and I have no interesting trading it and all the new bands and the old. For your commercialized whiny boy band crap. Metal is timeless because it's technical and thought provoking, it doesn't matter if it was made yesterday or 30years ago and metals always a level playing field because of this.

So many people are harping on this one word. And you guys like "real metal" fucking fantastic. I don't care for it, that's me. Who said you have to trade?? See, the thing is, I LOVE music. I LOVE all kinds of music from all genres and all ages. Why disregard something b/c of X and sometimes Y when it could be something you like? Just never understood. There's no trading in. I've can shuffle my iPod and be listening to Led Zeppelin one minute, then the next song is Smashing Pumpkins, to Common Market, to Dance Gavin Dance, to Wu Tang Clan, to Tupac, to George Thorogood, to Eazy-E, to CCR etc etc.

You may also think metal levels the playing field but I for one couldn't care less about all the dragons and nights and fantasy and elves and crap that comes along w/ it. The music just doesn't appeal to me, but that's just me. As someone recently stated in this thread, you can enjoy and listen to whatever pops your pee-pee. I'm completely OK w/ that.

Black Metal branched off from Speed Metal and Thrash Metal. Led Zeppelin is like four or five genres back down the line. That's like saying the Wright Brothers great great grandfather pioneered manned-flight.
