My ideal scenario for the Raiders, that could be somewhat realistic, would be to resign QB Bruce Gradkowski if he plays well the rest of the season & keeps our offense improving. The hire Jon Gruden as HC, & have Gradkowski reunited under 2 of the best QB minds in the game, in Jon Gruden & current QB Coach Paul Hackett. Gruden has worked with Hackett many times before. This would really be something positive. But it will never ever happen, just cuz great things don't happen to us anymore.

JaMarcus Russell spoke to the Oakland media Thursday for the first time since benched, but the Raiders quarterback didn't sound like a changed man.

As described by Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, Russell was his usual "off-hand self," not showing any outward frustration about, well, anything. Russell was definitive, however, when asked about possibly reworking his contract.

"Oh, no. That's over and done with. I don't even consider that as a part of it," Russell said.

He admitted that he was embarrassed by the benching, yet seemed hesitant to give much credit to Bruce Gradkowski for the team's latest success. Russell was asked what Gradkowski was doing well:

"Now it's just all around. Guys are just making plays around him," Russell said. "In the Dallas game after you go out and win in Cincinnati there weren't plays really made the whole game, you know what I mean.


"Going into Pittsburgh, guys were making plays for him. That's what a quarterback needs, his surrounding players. That's what was going on."

It was a theme Russell hammered over and over. This was Russell's response when asked to grade his performance this year:

Thing is, what's a value rate for a QB like Gradkowski? Derek Anderson went from nobody to probowler and the Brownies had to fork over $8 mil to keep him....now obviously Gradkowski can't really demand that type of loot (even though Anderson SUCKS, but that's irrelevant now), but he ain't gonna come cheap.

If Gradkowski keeps it up then he very well could ask for $3-4 mil a year on at least a two year deal....would Al be willing to pay him that scratch AND keep the dumb fuck on the roster @ his inflated salary?

Nobody thought Moss was going to be good anymore. You remember back in rf pre 2007 draft, everyone was shitting on the guy. I used to be randy_moss_18 on there, I remember most of you and everyone else shitting on me when I defended Moss. I wanted Calvin Johnson to pair with Moss but almost everyone else wanted Russell. The media was blasting New England for the trade. How times change.

We also don't know how russell would've been if he was on another team, same with moss if he was drafted back here in 98 instead of c-wood. But Gruden had been brought in so he probably would still be good, especially because like in Minny with Carter he'd have a HOF vet in tim brown here as well to learn from.
