"I didn't think you need to take this football team and add some names or high salaries to it. You needed to get the core re-signed," Cable said. "That, for me, far outweighs signing some name or some big salary because that didn't do a damn thing for us. This team needed to be taken care of from inside out and then add to it through the draft."

Maybe... hopefully......... this is the turn around year. I refuse to get excited about anything. I need to see it on the field.
Cable has some grapefruits! I hope he doesn't find himself in the unemployment line...

Talk is cheap when Cable does something I'll start listening to what he has to say. Regarding the draft Al calls the shots. :csa:

I know, huh? But seriously, those words were a direct knock on Al Davis. Let's be real.
I was listening to the Chris Myers show (570AM in L.A.) a little while ago and he thinks that Gruden is holding out for a possible return to the Raiders. If Steve Hartman were to say that I would just blow it off, but Chris has some serious connections. Food for thought...

Doubtful. I don't see them as a shot at Al, I think Al will be the first to tell you he fucked up last offseason.

Very important draft. We MUST come away with legit starters, not borderline starters or special teams players. Ideally we come away with one offensive starter and one defensive starter on the first day, or if we're lucky somehow swing a trade down and grab an extra pick.

I'm really not looking forward to the draft we all know who calls the shots so I'm not going to waste my time trying to figure out who Al is going to pick. Al will do the picking not Cable.

Are you talking about the same Al Davis I am? The one who talked Javon Walker out of retirement?
I'm still waiting (very patiently) for his 2009 version of 'the state of the Raiders address'...

Al might of screwed up last offseason, but his draft choices last year were solid.

^^How many wins did his solid draft produce? :csa:

I agree. 07 and 08 draft took us from more holes than swiss cheese in a firing range to a manageable discernable number of needs to round out the roster.
FA has been beyond atrocious..seems like they get it this year.

It's a process, remember we had the whole Lance/Al nonsense that pretty much killed us through training camp and the start of the season. I know we need a GM but there is no reason to believe we can't come away with 2 starters from the first day of the draft, it's not like our roster is stacked and these kids are gonna be battling solid vets for playing time.

So far this offseason is going in the right direction. Building the O line with FA, sounds good to me. Not overspending on big name FA over the hill terds, sounds good to me.
Lets see how the draft goes...taking real football players over 40 times...lets see.
Whoever is advising Al, hes obviously listening. Im not busting nuts till I see wins on the field though!!!
