View Full Version : Bruce Gradkowski tears pectoral muscle

So why did the Raiders sign quarterback Kyle Boller on Thursday? Though they possibly were considering the move anyway, a specific need arose on Wednesday, when (per a league source) quarterback Bruce Gradkowski tore a pectoral muscle while lifting weights.
Gradkowski was bench pressing when the injury occurred. He'll have surgery on Friday.
According to the source, Gradkowski is expected to resume throwing in four weeks, and he'll be ready for training camp. Though he'll be practicing on a non-contact basis for those two weeks, quarterbacks typically practice on a non-contact basis.
Gradkowski and JaMarcus Russell will compete for the starting job. Last year, he performed capably in place of Russell, putting together a game for the ages in his hometown of Pittsburgh, with three touchdown passes and a 121.8 passer rating in a 27-24 win.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Steelers have internally discussed trading Roethlisberger
By Jason La Canfora | NFL.com
The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't talked with other teams about dealing embattled quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, but they've had significant internal discussions about the matter, a source with knowledge of the situation said Thursday.
According to the source, Steelers ownership remains dismayed and embarrassed by Roethlisberger's actions in a Georgia college town this offseason and finds his string of off-the-field incidents troubling. The team has been closely monitoring the public backlash against Roethlisberger.
"The Rooneys are livid," the source said.
A Georgia district attorney decided not to hand down sexual-assault criminal charges against Roethlisberger on Monday, but the Steelers, as well as the NFL, could impose their own discipline on him.
Roethlisberger met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday. Goodell said Wednesday that he would make a decision on Roethlisberger's status "in the near future."
The Steelers' front office has talked internally about possible trade scenarios that could be feasible and what makes sense for the team. According to a source, if other teams called about Roethlisberger, the Steelers would intently listen.
The Steelers could envision several trade scenarios, but they're skeptical about other teams taking on Roethlisberger, given his baggage. However, they also realize his contract is tradeable in an uncapped year, with the bonuses already paid and Roethlisberger signed for six more years at a manageable salary for a franchise quarterback ($8.05 million in 2010, $11.6 million per year from 2011 to 2014, and $12.1 million in 2015).
In particular, the Steelers are enamored with likely No. 1 overall draft pick Sam Bradford. They essentially view Bradford as a sure-thing franchise quarterback and have considered what it would take to move up to the No. 1 pick in a trade with the St. Louis Rams, according to a source. However, the Steelers know executing such a move would be highly difficult, and they figure the Rams have limited interest in Roethlisberger.
Steelers officials aren't worried about how Roethlisberger's return will impact the locker room. The Rooneys' concern is born of the history and prestige of their franchise, the recent fan backlash and public perception about Roethlisberger and their belief that no player is bigger than the team.
However, the source noted that this isn't "a Santonio Holmes situation," alluding to the Steelers dumping the talented but troubled receiver for a fifth-round pick over the weekend as he faced a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
"This is not a case of having to get rid of this guy,'" the source said. "There would have to be fair value."
Roethlisberger, drafted 11th overall in 2004, has performed at an elite level for the Steelers. He's among the winningest quarterbacks for his age and already possesses two Super Bowl rings. His size, improvisational skills and ability to escape the rush and deliver the ball to all parts of the field make him among the best in the league.
Should Roethlisberger have another off-the-field misstep, however, his Steelers career likely would be over, according to team and league sources. And, if a legitimate trade scenario materialized, that end could come much sooner.
Teams that aren't committed long-term to a starting quarterback include the Rams, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals.
The Steelers refused to entertain dealing Holmes within the AFC North, and that would apply with Roethlisberger as well. A trade likely would have to involve a quarterback or put the Steelers in position to draft one they like (Pittsburgh is high on its young backup, Dennis Dixon, however).
Finding the right deal is remote, the Steelers know, but not necessarily impossible.
Put me down for doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to get Big Ben in Silver and Black. What will the Steelers want ?
Two 2nd round picks ? Asomugha or even our 8th pick I don't care get it done I'll do whatever it takes.

HELL NO !
Russell should not get any snaps at all and even if it wasn't no other QB on the roster I'll say the same shit. I'll rather have Shane start at QB instead of Russell so Fuck that shit man hell no !

We have no pass rush. We barely blitz. And we are 2 DE's & a DT short right now. We trade Asomugha, & our defense will be really really bad, man. We'll be last in Run, & last in Pass D. Not a good idea at the moment to trade Asomugha. You don't trade one of the top cover corner's in the league unless u got one hell of a pass rush in place to compensate for the lesser CB's on your defense.

People ask me a lot if I could choose one quarterback to run an offense who would it be?
I like to look at it this way; which QB will get the win for you in the clutch?
No QB that I have ever seen play gets it done in the clutch better than Big Ben.
HOWEVER, dude really has fouled up and I don't know about giving up draft picks. Weird how Holmes gets shipped out like he's a POS, when Roethlisburger ain't such a ray of sunshine himself

bh...u know he's gonna be starting at some point. Unless the Raiders trade for Big Ben, or draft a Qb within the first two rounds...(although I could see a scenario where they take someone in the 3rd)
I don't see any likelier scenario. Gradkowski starts, he'll get hurt. If Russell starts and sucks, Gradkowski will go in for however long he lasts.

He's not going to be here for long anyway. After his contract is up we can't franchise him again so its better to trade him now before he gets injured or his play starts to slip and we can't get good value for him.

Don't trade any more draft picks. Don't trade for Big Ben. If the Raiders need a QB, & they believe JaMarcus is not the answer, then they need to draft Jimmy Clausen @ 8 if he's available, or find another QB they like later in the draft. This team has far too many holes to fill, & trading multiple draft picks for a franchise type QB & leaving a bunch of other holes will not help this team. The Raiders did this to themselves by drafting the wrong players, over & over again, & living in denial about JaMarcus. Start making the best decisions to help this football team, that's the bottom line. JaMarcus is done in Oakland, there's no reclamation there. Make the necessary adjustments, & bring in a new QB & start fresh. We have a decent coaching staff in place at the moment to groom a new young QB, so we should take advantage of that. We're already in the hole for a 1st rounder next year cuz of the Seymour trade, lets not make it deeper. Draft accordingly!!!!

But you're assuming Asomugha will stay healthy and continue with his solid play thats what I'm saying man. We can't assume Asomugha will stay healthy cause we never know dude can get an ACL injury or something ..god forbid and no one will trade for an injured player no matter how good that player is.
Imo the time is now to get rid of him before its too late.

Yeah, I see the same thing unfolding like how we did Charles Woodson.
But we didn't trade Woodson we let him walk cause we couldn't tag him anymore and the samething will happen with Asomugha if we don't trade him and get something for him.

The way i see it is if you trade some picks for a proven quarterback then you do it given the way Al drafts. We all know that Al is going to fuck this draft up once again so why not just trade some picks and get that QB. Ofcourse it makes sense to keep all our picks and draft some actual legit players but its not happening as long as the man with the walker is around .

Ive been saying this for a while but no one wants to hear it, we don't have a legit NFL QB on our roster. Grads is better than those other two stiffs we have and that's it. He was not going to lead us anywhere but to 6-7 wins with a lot of luck. Big Ben? No thanks we all ready have one big dummy on the team why add another one? Ben is a 100% better QB than Jastiffcus but off the field he seems to be just as dumb or dumber If that's possible then fat boy. We are fucked Son, this teams has so many holes to fill and Al's old antique decrepit ass can't even draft decent football players. Anyway you try to spin it we are still fucked for the foreseeable future.

Gradkowski should be ready for training camp; this isn't as devastating as people are making it out to be.
I liked this guy; he's not great but he's accurate and has heart.
The Raiders are 2-3 drafts from being a good team; they have lots of holes and one draft won't fix it; especially after so many bad ones.
